Year R

Once we begin teaching phonics, you will receive a weekly ‘Sounds of the Week’ email. This will tell you which sounds and tricky words we will be learning, as well as giving you some words to practise blending and reading with your child. Your child may also have specific sounds that they need to practise. These will be recorded in your child’s Reading Record as appropriate.

When your child is ready, they will be given a reading practise book. This will be in line with our phonics scheme. The book will be chosen carefully to match your child’s secure phonic knowledge, and they should be reading it fluently. Please hear your child read this book and record it in their Reading Record. It is really beneficial for children to re-read the same book multiple times to build up their fluency and confidence.

Your child will also bring home a sharing book to read with you. The purpose of the sharing book is to promote a love of reading. Please share this book with your child, reading it to them and talking about the story together.

Each half-term we will send home a project linked 'Home Learning' activity sheet. This includes lots of ideas for activities that you can complete at home that link to the current project. It is not compulsory to complete these activities, but they will support and build on the learning that your child is experiencing at school. Copies of the different sheets can be found below.

We would love to see any Home Learning that the children have completed as well as any ‘wow’ moments that they have had. Please log into Tapestry and upload any photos, film clips and comments.
